triangulated mardi gras mask

My friend threw a Mardi Gras party this Saturday, complete with beads and king cake. She did, however, ask that people dress up and/or wear masks. Since my wardrobe has ended up consisting of, apparently, only greyscale values, I opted for the mask. I started by buying a paper mache form from the art store and cutting it down to something manageable. I then photographed and modeled the results in Rhino, adding a “cage” of triangles over one eye, across and under the other. I laid out these triangles in 2D and cut them out of transparencies using my cutter. I assembled the pieces with scotch tape and filled the form with feathers. Finally, I glued the shape to the base mask with some Sobo and added an elastic band. A large amount of eye makeup and some heels later, I was ready for the party.
