Triangular Tissue Holder

As a child I, like many, often had a runny nose. This was probably due to a plethora of then-undiagnosed allergies, but all I knew at the time was that I went through tissues faster than my parents went to the store to replenish them. Since I still had to blow my nose, tissues or no, I took to sneaking rolls of toilet paper into my room. They had to be snuck because, as my mother informed me, having toilet paper rolls around one’s room was not classy.

In college I generally ignored this advice, as classiness when constantly sleep deprived and not well showered is already an impossibility, but since I have actually been purchasing tissues. Actual tissues are far more expensive than toilet paper, and are much better suited to being stuffed into coat pockets for the walk to work. And so I’d like to return to my toilet paper ways, but I’m not willing to give up my classiness.

This past holiday, among many other wonderful gifts, my mother gave me a triangular box of tissues in the design of a slice of chocolate cake. While quite festive, the shape was what inspired me. The triangular shape would quite perfectly fit a small roll. I cut apart the box and used it as a pattern to cut the covers from the books I used to cover my desk. Truely, I use the whole animal. Sadly, the thing is still a bit wet, but I need to get some sleep so I’m capable of making something tomorrow. And the next day. And the….
